Exchange Programs of German Universities
International students from a great amount of countries wishing to learn after high school at a Fachhochschule or German university should attend the Studienkolleg for a couple of semesters and pass an exam. Studienkolleg tuition is free.
Though the system of getting German education is rather diverse from the US variant (no degree unless a masters equivalent etc), it is still probable to gain a German diploma with non-German backdrop. The place for contacting is the Auslandsamt, the foreign office of the included universities.
Typically, it is easier to go with an arranged program. Particularly since these programs guarantee some kind of credit transfer that is (counting on your home college or university) hard to impractical to get otherwise. Also, some programs comprise special classes (often in English, German classes for international students…) that will otherwise not be provided — German students are supplied to locate their own way via the university jungle…
The great benefit of going alone is the fiscal aspect. German education is basically free that is university students disburse a nominal tuition of usually roughly US$30 per semester for the education plus living expenses, books and the typical public transportation — all amount to an (probable) US$600-900 per month.
