The University of Bamberg

The University of Bamberg is the university, which is located in Bavaria. It has the following specializations in Cultural Studies, Humanities, Economics, Applied Information Technology, Social Sciences.

This higher educational institution was founded in 1647 as Academia Bambergensis. It was established by Prince-Bishop Melchior Otto Voit von Salzburg. It was developed in a very rapid way the same year thanks to the hard working of Prince-Bishop Friedrich Carl von Schönborn. Under his ruling, the educational institution was awarded the title of the university, and the following departments were presented within the curriculum of it: medicine, law, philosophy, theology.

In 1803, the university was closed because of the secularization of the diocese. Nevertheless, Catholic theology was still available to the students.

In 1972, the College of Philosophy and Theology was merged with the Teachers Training College and became a Gesamthochschule of Bamberg. In 1979, it earned a title of the university one more time, and great re-organizations were made.

Nowadays, the university offers to the students B.A. degrees, M.A. degrees, and PhD degrees. It has four departments: Information Systems and Applied Computer Sciences, Human Sciences, Social Sciences, Business Administration and Economics, Humanities and Cultural Sciences. The Institute of the Catholic Theology is also operates within the walls of the University of Bamberg.
