German Education System

Germany is world known for its education system; comprehensiveness and absoluteness are the main qualities of German education structure. An incredible variety of the best universities might surprise you pleasantly. But the main kinds are General education and Dual (or vocational) education.

The first kind is divided into another three levels, which are: lower, intermediate and upper secondary schools. There are not many comprehensive schools, especially you won’t find many in the North of Germany. Specialized colleges, colleges of education, universities and technical universities are among the higher educational establishments. Except the general universities you may also enter theological, music, art universities and many others. The period of studying would vary from 6 to 8 years. The certificate you would get depends on the level of education.

After graduating, getting your diploma, you may continue your study to get a further qualification. One who is eager to get a Doctoral degree should take a final examination. Pupils of compulsory schools very often decide to enter one of the vocational schools to get a dual education. They sign a vocational training contract; young people obtain various professional skills and train in enterprises. The apprenticeship is guaranteed. The vocational educational system consists of: vocational, specialized vocational, vocational extension and specialized schools.

Adult education is also well-known in Germany. All the educational institutions are controlled by the government, that’s why this country attracts so many students from all over the world. In the last 20 years the number of students doubled here.
